After completing a two year training program in Poetry Therapy at St Elizabeths Hospital in Washington DC in the early 1990s, Ingrid Tegnér completed a Master of Social Work at University of Maryland at Baltimore. She worked in the Baltimore/Washington DC area as a clinical poetry therapist. Her work assignments included a residential treatment center for adolescents, writing groups with cancer survivors, as well as non-clinical groups with women, active elders and children. She became a poetry therapy Mentor/Supervisor in 2005, now called Certified Mentor and continues to mentor non-clinical poetry facilitators in conjunction with the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy.
